Scooters are becoming more and more popular as our cities congest. Aside from exposure to the elements, it has all the convenience and practicality that a city commuter needs. Especially if you live in a place where parking is scarce or at a fee and public transit is not quite up to par.
I’ve been researching what is available out there and it seems silly paying $3000 and upwards for something that has a 50cc engine. Perhaps I’m cheap and it’s actually not that much more to upgrade to 150cc but maybe it is because it would be my first one EVER. Some high performance or freeway capable scooters have engines as big as 300cc and these get up to the $5-7k range so not sure why I wouldn’t just get a motorcycle at that point since the convenience of it being small and lightweight is diminishing at that point. That said, I don’t think I’m looking for anything larger than 150cc which seems to be the larger of the smalls within the scooter tier of smalls.
While I was looking around I came across a bunch of ads for a brand called Amigo. I did a little research on them and found out that it is an American company that is rebranding and reselling scooters made by a Chinese company Znen. The article below was quite convincing in why Amigo version will have a certain quality of standard and consistency. At least it is not the “you never know what you’ll get” fear. With an entry level cost of $1-$2k I think it’s a no brainer that I will give this brand a try.
